Unless indicated as "In Library Use Only," these resources are available from any internet connection.  Most databases will require you to enter your Minuteman Library card number for access outside the library.

For a few databases, home access is available only to Belmont residents.

 

Academic OneFile 

Academic Onefile contains 8,000 academic journals, the majority in full-text, available in HTML and PDF formats. In addition it contains hundreds of podcasts and transcripts from NPR, CNN, and the CBC, as well as full-text New York Times content from 1985.

American Ancestors

The New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS), founded in 1845, is the nation's oldest and largest genealogical society with a research library of over 200,000 volumes. If you have New England ancestors, or are interested in genealogical research of any kind, you will find that NEHGS is an important resource for helping you achieve your research goals.

Database of millions of titles of currently available books, audio books, and videos. Use Fiction Connection to locate book suggestions based on a title you already enjoy.

Business and Company Resource Center 

Business and Company Resource Center is a fully integrated resource bringing together company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies and periodicals. Search this database to find detailed company and industry news and information.

 

Career Transitions 

Career Transitions is an online career guidance center that walks users through the job-search process from beginning to end. It brings together all the tools needed to explore and take the leap to a new career. Career Transitions employs a step-by-step approach to help people: 1) explore new career possibilities; 2) assess their interests and experience; 3) identify ways to improve their prospects, including networking and education; 4) prepare for a job search; and 5) search and apply for jobs.

Central Register & Goods and Services Bulletin

The Central Register is the weekly source for information about state, county and municipal contracts being put out to bid for the design, construction and reconstruction of public facilities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Goods and Services Bulletin is a weekly publication containing solicitations for the procurement of commodities and services (which, generally, are unrelated to construction of public facilities).

24 hour access to repair and maintenance information for the most popular cars, trucks and SUVs. Photos, illustrations and procedures to repair are highlights of this reliable mechanic resource. Recalls and other Technical Service Bulletins are also available.

Contemporary Literary Criticism Select 

Contemporary Literary Criticism - Select (CLC-Select) is an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors.  Each CLC-Select entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, listing of principal works, and sources for further study.

Digital Media Catalog (OverDrive) 

The Digital Media Catalog (OverDrive) provides popular audiobooks and eBooks for users to download.

There is also a collection of Public Domain eBooks that includes many popular classics.

 

EBooks from Infobase Publishing 

Easily browse non-fiction eBooks on many topics including literary criticism, current events, history, science, biography, and art. You can search for ebooks by keyword or title, or by clicking on the subject headings. You can also search within individual books, bookmark specific pages, and add notes that you can view upon logging in with a free username and password.

Educator's Reference Complete 

A collection of more than 1,100 periodicals and 200 reports (most full-text) focusing on all levels of education, educational administration and policy.

Expanded Academic ASAP 

From arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all academic disciplines.  Access scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers - with full text and images!

 

Gale Virtual Reference Library 

The Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. Sources may be searched individually or together. See a list of GVRL titles.

General BusinessFile ASAP 

Use this database to research all business and management topics. Includes directory listings for over 150,000 companies as well as investment analysts' reports on major companies and industries. Choose "Advanced search" and then type a ticker symbol into the pop-up box to search Reuters Research on Demand, which contains investment reports produced by financial institutions and Wall Street and International brokerage firms.

General OneFile 

General OneFile is a one-stop source for news and periodical articles, including most of the content across all Thomson/Gale databases. OneFile contains over 5,000 full-text periodical titles, and more than 9,200 titles in all, on a wide range of topics.

General Reference Center Gold 

Use this general interest database to search magazines, reference books, and newspapers for information on current events, popular culture, the arts and sciences, sports, etc.

Global Issues in Context 

Global Issues in Context offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events. Featured are hundreds of continuously updated issue and country portals that bring together a variety of specially selected, highly relevant sources for analysis of social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural issues. Each of these gateway pages includes an overview, unique "perspectives" articles written by local experts, reference, periodical, primary source and statistical information. Guide to Reference 

Guide to Reference is a cornerstone of the literature of librarianship.

The new online edition takes full advantage of the Web's capacities to connect information sources; it also creates and links to content that makes it a center for learning about and practicing reference librarianship.

It is used internationally as the "source of first resort" for identifying local materials that answer users' questions, training reference staff, inventorying and developing reference collections, assisting interlibrary loan staff, and serving as a gateway to the wider repertory of the reference literature.

 

Health and Wellness Resource Center 

Provides instant access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials. Includes nearly 400 health/medical journals, numerous reference volumes, over 700 health videos from partner Healthology, Inc., hundreds of pamphlets and health-related articles from 2,200 general interest publications in addition to a broad collection of Gale reference titles. Material contained in this Resource Center is intended for informational purposes only.

Health Reference Center Academic 

Use this database to find articles on: Fitness, Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, etc. The material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only.

Historical Boston Globe  

ProQuest Historical Boston Globe, considered the mainstay of Boston and New England, is a unique full-image archive offering complete coverage from 1872-1979. Every issue of this title includes the complete paper - cover to cover - with full-page and article images in downloadable PDF. And the database just keeps growing, with an additional year of content added annually. Historical New York Times 

The Historical New York Times provides the full image of articles published in the New York Times from its first issue in 1851 (to three years prior to the current year). It is searchable by keyword, subject, author, and article title. It includes illustrations and advertisements. The title changed from the New York Daily Times to the New York Times in 1857.

 

Junior Edition 

Designed for junior high and middle school students. Includes mainly full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books covering current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more.

 

Kids InfoBits 

Kids InfoBits targets the research needs of students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. It features a developmentally appropriate and visual graphic interface, a subject-based topic tree search and full-text, age-appropriate, curriculum-related magazine and reference content.

LexisNexis Public Library Express 

Access over 9,500 news, business, and legal sources. The outstanding news coverage includes deep backfiles and up-to-the-minute stories in national and regional newspapers, wire services, broadcast transcripts, international news, and foreign-language sources. Use the Company Dossier module to retrieve detailed company information and financial performance measures or identify and compare companies matching specific criteria. NOTE: Only the News and Company Info portions of the database are available remotely. Law is only available in the library.

Literature Resource Center 

Find up-to-date biographical information, overviews, full-text literary criticism and reviews on more than 130,000 writers in all disciplines, from all time periods and from around the world. The optional MLA International Bibliography module adds citations for hundreds of thousands of books, articles and dissertations from 1926 to the present, linked to full text where available.

LitFinder 

Covering world literature and authors throughout history, LitFinder contains a wealth of literary works including over 150,000 full-text poems and 800,000+ poetry citations, as well as short stories, speeches, and plays. For students or patrons seeking a deeper view into literature, LitFinder also includes secondary materials like biographies, images, and more! From Shakespeare's sonnets to poems by Donald Hall or short stories from Edgar Allan Poe to works by Annie Proulx, LitFinder has you covered.

 

Mango Languages 

Mango is designed to equip you with conversational abilities from the very start. Morningstar Investment Research Center offers accurate, up-to-date data on 35,000 stocks and funds, along with industry and market data. The database lets users build and test portfolio ideas online, and provides financial education through its Investing Classroom.

Muzzy Online

NoveList 

NoveList is an electronic readers' advisory resource which assists fiction readers in finding new authors and titles.  Through its attractive and easy-to-use interface, NoveList allows readers to use a favorite author or title as a template to locate other authors and titles of interest.  Readers can also enter words that describe the contents of a book they would like to read, and NoveList retrieves titles that contain these words in the book's subject headings field.  In addition, users can browse over 1,200 theme-oriented book lists, 150 award lists and 1,000 fiction related web-sites.  NoveList contains materials for all ages including picture books, children's "chapter" books, young adult titles and books for adult readers.
